Shahrzad Irannejad ist Philologin mit dem Schwerpunkt Medizingeschichte islamisch geprägter Länder. Nach ihrem Pharmazie-Studium an der Medizinischen Universität Teheran, welches sie im Jahr 2009 mit pharmazeutischer Promotion abschloss, spezialisierte sie sich auf die Geschichte der griechisch-arabischen Medizin. Bei der Untersuchung der Mechanismen des textuellen Wissenstransfers in der mittelalterlichen islamischen Welt interessiert sie sich sowohl für die kodikologischen Aspekte der materiellen Medien des Wissenstransfers als auch für einzelne Wissensakteure und Vermittler. Derzeit ist sie Doktorandin am interdisziplinären Graduiertenkolleg 1876 „Frühe Konzepte von Mensch und Natur: Universalität, Spezifität, Tradierung“, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. In ihrem Projekt „Lokalisierung der inneren Sinnen Avicennas im hippokratischen Körper“ hat sie sich damit befasst, wie Konzepte und Ideen (in Bezug auf das Gehirn und den Geist) auf ihrem Weg über sprachliche und kulturelle Grenzen hinweg von der griechischen bis zur mittelalterlichen arabischen Tradition transformiert wurden. Shahrzad Irannejad ist seit Herbst 2020 als Gastwissenschaftlerin am Orient-Institut Istanbul tätig und arbeitet an dem Projekt „Wissen vor Epidemien: (Islamische) Humoralmedizin vs. Prophetische Medizin“ innerhalb des BMBF-finanzierten Vorhabens „Iran and Beyond: Breaking Ground for Sustainable Scholarly Collaboration“ (IRSSC). Verankert sowohl in der Philologie als auch in der Medizinsoziologie vereint das Projekt auch die Schwerpunkte zweier Forschungsfelder innerhalb des Orient-Instituts Istanbul: „Mensch, Medizin und Gesellschaft“ und „Religionsgeschichte“.
