Gülşah Şenkol ist Stipendiatin, die sich auf die vergleichende Frauengeschichte im Nahen Osten spezialisiert hat. Sie hat an der Ohio State University in Geschichte promoviert (2019) und hatte Gastforschungsaufenthalte an der University of Wisconsin-Madison, der American University in Cairo (AUC) und der Princeton University. Während des akademischen Jahres 2019-2020 war sie Postdoc-Stipendiatin am Forschungszentrum für anatolische Zivilisationen der Universität Koç (ANAMED). Im Sommer 2020 gab sie eine Lehrveranstaltung über Frauen und Gender in der Literatur an der Universität Koç. Die Forschung von Şenkol wurde durch Preise und Stipendien aus verschiedenen Quellen unterstützt, darunter das Fulbright-Stipendium und das Adıvar Stipendium für Osmanistik und Turkologie sowie das Stipendium für die Genevieve-Brown-Gist-Dissertationsforschung an der Ohio State University.

Am Orient-Institut wird sie zur Erweiterung des Forschungsfeldes zu autobiographischen Quellen für die Erforschung der türkischen und osmanischen Geschichte beitragen, indem sie die Forschungszusammenarbeit in der Türkei und international zu Frauen und ihren autobiographischen Schriften fördert.
