Nevin Şahin erwarb ihren BA in Fremdsprachen mit Soziologie im Nebenfach und ihren MS in Sozialanthropologie an der Middle East Technical University (METU) mit einer ethnographischen Forschung zu Musik und Migration unter deutsch-türkischen jungen Frauen in türkischen Musikchören im Jahr 2009. Sie promovierte im Jahr 2016 in Soziologie, und ihre Forschung zu Musik und Macht unter Mevlevi-Musikern wurde durch die Graduiertenakademie des Instituts für Sozialwissenschaften der METU als Dissertation des Jahres ausgezeichnet. Sie arbeitete in mehreren Forschungsprojekten einschließlich einer vergleichenden Forschung über die Musiktheorien der osmanischen und byzantinischen Musik. Neben ihren Forschungstätigkeiten hatte sie Lehraufträge in unterschiedlichen Bereichen wie Englisch, Einführung in die Soziologie und religiöse Musiktraditionen. Seit 2018 ist sie Mitglied des Corpus Musicae Ottomanicae-Teams am Orient-Institut Istanbul.
